MITIMITI

Three weeks after our wedding we went up to Mitimiti where we had an enjoyable holiday last year.  Sophie, the Labrador, was able to come as well.  We had a week this time.  There is no cell phone coverage although we did have wi-fi so were able to read our local paper.  It is about two hours to the nearest shops so we had to take all the food we would need for the week.  Once again, we were lucky with the weather - there was nothing to do but walk, read and relax.  As they say, just what the Doctot ordered.

Doug collected some mussels on the rocks.  There are horses and cattle roaming freely on the beach.  Doug took his bow and had some target practice up against the sand dunes.

                                                           Quite contented in the rocks!!
but came out when we approached

SOUTH ISLAND TOUR DAY 8

This was our final day - after a delicious breakfast we boarded the coach for the trip to Nelson.  We were dropped off at the World of Wearable Arts Museum which also incorporates a Classic Car Museum.  Entry was optional and not included in the tour as several people had already been there but there was also an excellent cafe.

After visiting the museum we had lunch in the cafe and then went the short distance to the airport and boarded our flight back to Auckland, then the coach back to Whangarei.  A most enjoyable trip and a lot done in the 8 days.

SOUTH ISLAND DAY 7

Our last full day on this tour was spent on the Mail Boat Run on the Pelorous Sound.  Once again we were lucky with the weather.  Apart from delivering mail to various bays around the Sound we also got to see some oyster and salmon  farms.  It was a most enjoyable day followed by a delicious meal at the Mussel Pot Cafe
